Wood Pellets

PASSIONATE ABOUT CREATING SUSTAINABLE WOOD-ALTERNATIVE PRODUCTS.

Geo Culture wood pellets offer clean, efficient, and sustainable heating that feels good in every way. Produced at Lourensford Wine Estate in Somerset West, ours are made from timber waste, sawdust, and wood shavings, turning local by-products into a high-energy, eco-friendly alternative to traditional fuels. With production capacity of up to 7,000 tons per year, we ensure a consistent, reliable long-term supply for homes, businesses, and industrial users. Our wood pellets are small, dense, and highly efficient, offering over five times the energy density of untreated biomass, with moisture content below 10%.

They ignite quickly, burn evenly, and produce minimal ash, giving you consistent and predictable warmth. Very little smoke helps keep your indoor space fresh, while their uniform size makes them ideal for pellet stoves, boilers, and fireplaces designed for pellets. They are also versatile enough for non-heating uses, such as animal bedding or cat litter.

Driven to Sustainability

Sustainability is at the heart of what we do. By producing locally at Lourensford, we reduce transport emissions and repurpose waste materials, directly supporting the Lourensford Sustainability initiative aimed at restoring natural fynbos, clearing invasive species, and regenerating the land. Every bag you use contributes to this mission.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are wood pellets made from?

Our wood pellets are manufactured from processed woody biomass. The raw material is dried, milled and compressed into uniform pellets, creating a convenient and efficient renewable fuel product.

What can wood pellets be used for?

Wood pellets are primarily used as a renewable fuel in compatible pellet stoves, boilers and biomass heating systems. They should only be used in appliances or systems designed to operate with wood pellets. Our Eco Litter is a separate pellet-based product intended for animal litter applications.

What pellet sizes and packaging options are available?

We supply 6 mm and 12 mm wood pellets, subject to availability. Pellets are available in 15 kg bags and bulk quantities, including bulk bags. Please contact us to confirm the most suitable pellet size and packaging option for your application.

Can I order wood pellets in bulk?

Yes. Wood pellets are available in bulk quantities, including bulk bags. Larger recurring or commercial orders can also be discussed. Pricing and delivery arrangements will depend on the quantity ordered and the delivery location.

How should wood pellets be stored?

Wood pellets must be kept dry. Store the bags indoors or under secure cover, in a dry and well-ventilated area. Keep them raised off the floor and away from rain, damp surfaces and direct contact with water. Open bags should be properly resealed where possible.

What happens if wood pellets get wet?

Wood pellets absorb moisture quickly. When exposed to water or excessive humidity, they may swell, soften and break down into loose material. Wet or damaged pellets may not feed or burn correctly and can lose their intended performance. For this reason, moisture-damaged pellets should not be used in pellet appliances.
